I am a Registered Psychologist and a PhD graduate from Palo Alto University in California. I am trained in providing multiple methods of treatment, including traditional and non-traditional therapeutic modalities. In response to the unique needs of the individual, I utilize my experience to offer Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural therapy techniques, Psychodynamic Therapy (the deeper meaning and understanding of the effect of patterns and history on current life), Humanistic and Feminist style, as well as Embodied Awareness techniques. As a Wholistic Psychotherapist, I incorporate all of the techniques I learn to guide you in the connection of mind, heart, body, and spirit. By utilizing all four of these aspects of the human experience, you are more able to overcome obstacles and challenges in your life and thrive. I am known for my insightful and empowering therapeutic style.
I have provided therapy to individuals and groups since 1998. In almost 20 years of practice, I have provided psychological services in a variety of treatment settings including private practice, mental health clinics, outpatient and inpatient facilities, community service centers, a specialty program for people who were accused of sexual abuses, a skilled nursing facility for the elderly, the Operational Stress Injury clinic in Calgary, Veteran’s hospitals, the National Center for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder in Menlo Park, CA, and Inner Solutions, Inc. in Calgary.
I specialize in treatment of trauma and trauma-related difficulties, such as depression, anxiety, sleep difficulties, and affected relationships. I work with those of you healing personal physical and sexual abuse, as well as veterans recovering from military-related trauma. I am skilled at helping you navigate transitions and find your personal power. My goal is to help you develop a sense of your own power and identity, while improving the relationships in your life. We work together to translate your inspirations and ideas into action that makes your life everything you dream it can be. I am your teacher, your guide, your coach, and your cheerleader. Sometimes I am the "expert" with the knowledge and experience, other times I am a listening, caring ear supporting you in your painful moments. At all times, I am here entirely for you and always on your side.
Every one of us has the ability to overcome the challenges and the heartaches that sometimes come up in our lives. When we are young, we believe this: we know that we can be whatever we want to be when we grow up, that we can fly if we just find a garage high enough, that we can save all of the homeless people and animals in the world. If our family life and social life is completely supportive and empowering, we continue to feel this way, with perhaps a sprinkling of humility and knowledge of physics thrown in to temper our earlier optimism. If someone(s) teaches us to fear, to hate, to cringe, life can become more about surviving than about spreading our wings and thriving.
Sometimes it seems like survival is all you can manage and that you are “meant” to suffer or to merely survive. I believe that every human being has the potential to be more, to thrive. When you align your ideas (Mind), your feelings (Heart), your experience (Body) and your spiritual experiences (Spirit), you feel Whole. When you accomplish that Wholeness, decisions and actions come from your own Wisdom and the outcome is the best possible outcome. My goal as a therapist is to work with you to find your own alignment and Wholeness so that you can be strong, empowered individuals in healthy and rewarding relationships. This happens by exploring where and how you came by your current beliefs and behaviors, then choosing which ones you would like to keep and which you would like to change, and practicing the actions that will make your life reflect the growth you have earned. In the process, you become the person you always dreamed you could be.
I look forward to getting to know you and work with you!
